New Bishop for Gizo. Diocese, Catholic Church, Western Province
Greetings to you all once again!
I had the opportunity to travel to the Western Province again to attend the Episcopal installation of the New Bishop for Gizo Diocese. Gizo has a new Bishop after the current Bp. Luciano Cappelli SDB resigned for health reasons; in response, the Holy Father appointed Bp. Peter Houhou of Auki Diocese to succeed him as the new Bishop for Gizo.
His installation took place on Sunday, August 27, 2023. Hundreds of people filled up St. Peter’s Cathedral to witness the installation ceremony. The Archbishop of Honiara, Bp Christopher Cardone O. P, officiated the rite of handing over the new Bishop to Gizo Diocese while His Excellency, Fermin Emilio Sosa, the Apostolic Nuncio for PNG/ SI read the Papal Bull, which contained the letter of appointment of Bp, Peter Houhou from Pope Francis, upon which the actual Mass was celebrated by Bp. Peter, with Priests and religious from Auki, Gizo and Honiara Dioceses present. The Premier of Western Province, representatives of other churches and other dignitaries were also present. The presence of all gave true spirit of unity and joy in the occasion.
After the solemn celebration of the installation, the Parishioners of Gizo put on a well set up feasting in the Western Province culture for all. They also sang and danced to entertain all until in the evening, when people started to return to their various homes.
With wishes and regards to you all!
Yours sincerely in Christ !
