New Church House Building, Radefasu Catholic Community. December 30, 2025
Happy Christmas Greetings to you all!
2025 is about to enfold while 2026 is ready to unfold. Tuesday, December 30, 2025 turned out to be a happy and joyful day for the Catholic community of Radefasu in the Langalanga lagoon as they have now witnessed their church house blessing. Many people from other places and churches around too, are part of the ceremony. The new Bishop elect of Auki Diocese, Fr. Jacob Aba s.m. is the main celebrant with 6 priests as con-celebrants.
In Historical story, Radefasu people have been originated from Rarata island in the lagoon of Langalanga. At the time, people still live in paganism. In 1952, a big cyclone struck and destroyed the island and people fled all over to the main island place on the main Malaita island.10 families moved to Radefasu where they settled until today .
How the families turn to Christianity is as follows;
In 1956, a Catholic pioneer Priest in Buma name Fr. John MacVoy s.m. visited the community and offered them relief support that contributed to the welfare and re-establishment of their lives in the new place and so the families decided to become converts to the Catholic church and remain in the faith of the church.
They started to build their church houses for prayers for the community. So far, in the development of church house buildings, 3 church houses have been built. The recent one that was just blessed is now the 4th building and it is a better permanent one now. The name given to this new church is “St. Theresa”. The hope for it now is it will contribute to the better spiritual and moral life of the community.
Indeed a blessing and a moment of grace for the community of Radefasu. Their happiness and smiles is unimaginable. After the eucharistic celebration for the blessing of the church house ended, the community of Radefasu carry out the outdoor program for the day. They put on feasting for the people as well cultural entertainment. In the evening, the program ended, and people started to return to their respective places .
With wishes and regards to you all !
Merry Christmas and happy new year 2026!
Yours sincerely in the Holy child of Bethlehem!
