Greetings to you all once again! Hope you all are fine there. Back to us here, we still have moments of celebrations. In this month of November, beginning on November 2nd – 7th, we join again with the ministry of light to celebrate their anniversary. The celebration takes place in Gwaedalo community, the home of the ministry founder. It is a historical gathering as hundreds of people from Guadalcanal Province, namely from Tangarare, Visale, Tanagai, Tenaru and Tetere catholic Parishes come to attend the celebration. Twenty years ago, Malaita and Guadalcanal engaged in the ethnic conflict among themselves, but through the ministry, healing and reconciliation have taken place in the spirit of the Light Ministry.

Ministry of light is a home grown ministry in the Catholic church of Solomon Islands. It started in the year 2000 at the height of the ethnic conflict in the Solomon’s Mr. Stephen Sifoburi, a Malaitan was attacked by the Malaita Army, the “Eagle Force” claiming he was a spy for the Guadalcanal Army (GRA). Being hospitalized for the brutal attack, Mr Stephen received a vision of light from God, directing him to work to evangelize families to commit themselves to live in the true life of God and to abandon all kinds of practices and behavior that will bring hatred and disunity to the society.

In year 2000, Mr. Stephen started the Ministry, in which hundreds of people in Guadalcanal and Malaita have joined. They attend it’s formation talks, spiritual retreats and live in the spirit of life directed by the ministry in union with the Catholic faith. In the start as well for the journey of the ministry of light, though the Catholic church of S.I. put the ministry under observation, in this month of November, it reaches 25th year in its existence.
